North Salmara is a sub-divisional town of
Bongaigaon District. The town lies between Chapar to the west, Jelkarjhar, New Bongaigaon and
Bijni to the north,
Abhayapuri to the west and
Jogighopa to the south. The mighty river,
Brahmaputra, has its course through the town. The town is surrounded by numerous tourist attractions. A combination of two lakes, Tamranga (larger lake) and Kanara (smaller lake) is the top attraction.
Bongaigaon is 12 km north of North Salmara. The nearest national highway is NH 37 which connects the town with rest of Assam. Bongaigaon Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
