Mahmara Pukhuri is a holy tank located in
Nalbari District. It was constructed during the reign of the
Ahoms.
It is believed to have been constructed after sacrificing a buffalo to remove the water scarcity in the area. After the sacrifice of the buffalo the entire area got the name Mahmara Pukhuri.
