Bounded by lakes, small temples and mosques, Lumding is a vibrant town situated in
North Cachar Hills District of
Assam. Timber, cotton, jute and tea are the main trading items of this commercial center. Lumding is about 39 km from
Diphu, the headquarters of the
Karbi Anglong District. The divisional headquarters of north-east frontier railway is situated here. Lumding reserve forest is renamed 'Elephant Reserve' by the Government of India in 2003.
The town has a railway station, the
Lumding Junction Railway Station.
