Urpad Beel (lake), one of the biggest lake of lower
Assam, is situated at Agia in
Goalpara District. It is about 9 km south of
Goalpara town on the way to
Guwahati.
Besides its natural beauty, the lake is rich in natural resources. Water lily, water hyacinth, lotus and a number of weeds are found. The villages surrounding the lake earn their livelihood by fishing in the lake.
Every year during October to March, a number of migratory birds visit the lake. Urpod Lake is the abode of water fowl, whistling teal, green pigeon, greater adjutant stork, lesser adjutant stork, egret, king-fisher, and fork-tailed shrike.
