Bahari Satra

Bahari Satra is situated at Bahari in Barpeta District, Assam. This is an ancient religious centre belonging to the Vaishnava sect. Bahari is about 23 km from Barpeta, near the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River.

Similar to the Buddhist monasteries in its functioning, this satra was built by Harideva in the year 1453. Harideva was the first Vaishnava preacher to nominate a woman, his daughter Bhubaneswari, as the Satrdhikar of Bahari Satra.

By road, Bahari can be reached via Bhella from Barpeta. The nearest railway station is at Barpeta Road. Ferry services are also available from Sontali and Alikesh to Bahari.
