Indian civilization is a confluence of many races and tribes. One of the dominant races is the Austrics. They are believed to have arrived in India some 5000 years ago. They are also termed as Proto-Austroloid due to their Australian origin. According to experts, they entered India through the north eastern regions.
The Austrics are characterized by their medium height, dark complexion, long heads and flat noses. They are found in most parts of the country forming a sizable population.
Being one of the earliest settlers in India, they laid the foundation of Indian civilization. They brought with them the practice of cultivating rice and vegetables. They also introduced the method of making sugar from sugarcane. Forms of their original language still exist in parts of eastern and central India, Mundari being the prominent one.
