White-winged Duck (Cairina scutulata) is a large duck with an average length of about 81 cm. It has a black body with a white head thickly spotted with black. The white patches on the wings are clearly visible.
Due to its quickly declining population, it has been declared as an endangered species. It is one of the largest ducks to breed in holes in trees.
The bird feeds on aquatic plants and insects, mollusks, frogs, snakes and fishes.
White-winged Duck can be seen in the Nameri National Park, Assam.
