Pongging is located at the confluence of
Siang and Yamne rivers in
Upper Siang District. A bridge, which might be a meter wide at its thinnest point, spans across the Siang at a height of 40 meters above the water surface, connecting the village with the other bank. Pongging is in fact one of the primitive villages in the district.
Pongging, as the isolation dictates, is self sufficient in terms of food and shelters like most of the Siang villages. Housing and domestic utensils are provided by the prolific bamboo. Anything that cannot be grown or made are bought from Pasighat.
To date, only few tourists might have visited this quaint hamlet. But Pongging, with its meandering rivers and unspoilt wilderness, offers immense tourism potential. It lies near Katan.
