Imphal




Imphal is the capital city of the state of Manipur. A small and beautiful city, Imphal lies in the valley of Manipur River and is surrounded by the hills and plains. Imphal was the seat of the Manipuri kings and became the capital of Manipur State, under the rule of British in 1826. Imphal had witnessed some of the most important battles in Indian history.

Major tourist attractions are Govindajee Temple, War cemeteries, Moirang, Sendra Island, Keibul Lamjao National Park, Khon Gon, Khonghampat Orchidarium, Langthaband, Saheed Minar, Manipur Zoological Garden, The Old Palace and Manipur State Museum.

Imphal Airport is 8 km south of city center. Indian Airlines flights connect Imphal with New Delhi via Guwahati. The nearest railhead is Dimapur, 215 km. It is connected by road with Guwahati through National Highway 53.
