Vizianagaram District in
Andhra Pradesh covers an area of 6,539 sq km of land. It was formed in the year 1979 and in earlier days, was part of the Kalinga kingdom ruled by
Satavahanas, Golconda, Nawabs and the British. The major source of income is agriculture and allied activities.
The population is approximately 2 million and the working class represents half of the population.
The predominant industries of this region include agro business and food processing, cotton yarn and cotton fabrics, jute and jute products, leather and leather based products, chemicals, drugs and pharmaceuticals.
