Sri Kurma Temple is located on the shores of
Swatha Pushkarini Lake at
Srikurmam in
Srikakulam District. It is dedicated to
Lord Vishnu and the deity is in the form of a kurma (tortoise), one of Lord Vishnu's ten incarnations.
This architecturally beautiful temple is about 700 years old. The deity is made of two stones which represent the head and body of the deity. A five storied gopuram which is built in typical South Indian style of architecture is a major draw. The wall paintings are similar to those at the Ajanta and Ellora Caves. A festival is held annually in February and the devotees flock here to take bath in the Swatha Pushkarini Lake.
Srikakulam Road Railway Station is about 30 km from Sri Kurma Temple. Regular buses are available from Vijayawada to
Srikakulam.
