Thousand Pillar Temple lies about 5 km from
Warangal and is near the
Hanamkonda-Warangal highway. Built by a
Kakatiya King, Rudra Dev, in 1163, the temple is in shape of a star and has three shrines dedicated to
Lord Shiva,
Vishnu and
Surya. One thousand carved pillars and the 6 ft high black basalt
Nandi at the entrance are the exclusive features. Built on the slopes of the Hanumakonda hill, the temple has beautifully carved doorways, pillars, ceiling and perforated screens. Small lingams are also seen in the temple premises.
