Rangareddy District is named after the famous freedom fighter and Telangana leader Sri Ranga Reddy. It was carved out from the twin cities of
Hyderabad and
Secunderabad and a few surrounding urban settlements of Hyderabad District.
The basin of the Musi river forms the major part of Rangareddy, which accounts to 65 percent. The other significant river basins are the Kagan Basin and the Manjira basin. Various rivers flow across this district with seasonal rivulets and small streams.
