Sri Venkateswara University, established in 1954, is located at the foot of the Seshachalam Hills (Seven Hills) of
Eastern Ghats, in
Tirupati,
Andhra Pradesh. A State University, located in a sprawling thousand acre campus, it has been imparting teaching and research programs in different faculties.
Sri Venkateswara University functions with more than 40 subject departments including biochemistry, virology, management, home science, computer applications, computer science, and electronic space and communication engineering. The university offers graduate and post graduate programs in the branches of humanities, social sciences, basic sciences and engineering management and in some of the frontier areas including environmental studies, atmospheric science, biotechnology, sericulture, fishery science fashion technology and engineering physics. M Phil and Ph D research programs are offered in almost every subject discipline.
The university also facilitates for distance education. The university has about 146 affiliated colleges, spread over Nellore, Cuddapah and Chittoor districts. The university library, housed in a spacious building, has a total collection of 2,95,000 volumes which includes 35,000 bounds volumes of journals and about 3500 thesis and dissertations.
The university has modern laboratory facilities, a health center, computer centre and separate hostels for men and women.
