Guntur, founded by the French in the 18th century, is the fourth largest district of Andhra Pradesh. It is blessed with an abundance of nature's treasures such as hills, valleys, rivers and beaches. Guntur lies in the Krishna river delta and is the reserve of culture and religion in ancient as well as the present times.

King Kubera is believed to have ruled over the Kingdom of Prati which is the earliest known kingdom of Guntur District, followed by famous dynasties such as the Satavahanas, Ikshavakus, and Pallavas.

Guntur covers an area of 11,390 sq km on the Deccan. It has a temperate climate with hot summers and cool winters. The best season to visit is from August to March.

Guntur stood foremost in the matters of education. The universities established by the Buddhists in ancient times at Dhanyakataka and Nagarjunakonda are proof of this.

Amaravati, Nagarjunakonda, Bhattiprolu, the Undavalli caves and the District Museum are places of historical importance. Agricultural produce includes cotton, rice, tobacco, and cashew nuts. Rice and oilseed milling, tobacco processing, and manufacturing of paint, paper, soap and ghee are the major activities.
