Kondapur




Kondapur, in Medak District, is 15 km from Sangareddy and 60 km from Medak. Kondapur is a place of archeological importance, where the excavations displayed the remains of Satavahana dynasty and a few Buddhist structures. The ruins of chaityas and stupas indicate that Kondapur was once a great Buddhist center. The excavations also unearthed the gold coin of the Roman Emperor Augustus (37 BC – 14 AD), about a dozen silver coins, 50 lead coins, some beads, broken pieces of bangles of terracotta, shell, ivory, copper and glass imprinted with designs. The relics are preserved in the local museum managed by the Archeological Survey of India.

Kondapur is about 90 km west of Hyderabad.
