Jaggayyapeta, an ancient Buddhist site, is 70 km from
Vijayawada in
Krishna District. It is 7 km from the confluence of the
Krishna and the
Paleri Rivers.
Excavations made in one of the brick mounds discovered some carved slabs, which showed the existence of a group of ancient stupas. Some monuments and antiquities were also discovered. A hill known as Dhanabodu or Hill of wealth lies nearby. A stupa or mahachaitya stood on this hillock in the past. Traces of monastic buildings are seen around the hillock.
