Pied Kingfisher is a common black and white crested Kingfisher. The bird is characterized by its large size, long bill, fluttering flight, black-and-white plumage and squeaky call.
Both the female and male are very similar and are only notable by the presence of 2 full breast bands (one broad and one narrow) in the male while the female has a single incomplete breast band. The species feeds on small fish and often hunts from a stationary perch. The bird is commonly seen near any suitable body of water, usually in pairs or loosely associated groups.
