Bakrid
Id-ul-Azha or Id-ul-Zuha
Bakrid is a festival celebrated by Muslims in India and the rest of the world. It falls on the 10th of Dhul-Hagg, the last month of the lunar year. This festival is celebrated to commemorate the ordeal of the Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim, who willingly agreed to sacrifice his son Ismail on the altar at the mount of Mina near Mecca. As he was on the point of applying the sword to his son’s throat, it was revealed to him that this was meant just to test his faith and it would suffice if he sacrificed a ram in the name of Allah. This festival coincides with the Haj pilgrimage to Mecca. Prayers are offered in the mosques and the sacrificial meat is then distributed.
