Ghantasala is about 90 km from
Vijayawada in
Krishna District. Once a prosperous Indo-Roman trade center, the place is famed for
Buddhist relics and
Hindu structures.
The excavations have recovered some carved limestone columns belonging to pillared halls and the remains of Buddhist stupa, mahachaityas and sculptural slabs. Roman gold coins and Satavahana coins have also been discovered here. Ghantasala Museum houses all these artifacts.
