Andhra University, located in
Visakhapatnam, was established on April 26, 1926. It was the first to be recognised as a residential-affiliated and teaching-cum-research university in India. This multi-disciplinary university offers more than 160 courses with 800 academic staff and a supporting staff of 2,800. It has four campus colleges and two post-graduate centers. In addition, there are about 370 affiliated colleges located in five districts of
Andhra Pradesh namely
Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Vijayanagaram,
East Godavari and West Godavari, offering both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various branches. Several courses are also offered through its School of Distance Education. Andhra University also assists 14 centers involved in advanced research or specifically identified programs. Separate hostel accommodation is available for both boys and girls.
