Thimmamma Marrimanu




Thimmamma Marrimanu is a huge banyan tree believed to be over 550 years old. It was recorded as the biggest banyan tree in the Guinness Book of World Records of 1989. Thimmamma Marrimanu is located in the village of Gutibayalu.

The tree covers over 2 acres, held up by nearly 1100 prop roots. The tree got its name from a lady called Thimmamma who is said to have saved her husband through her selfless devotion. A big Jatara (procession) is held here during Shivratri which draws a large number of visitors.

The nearest airport is at Bangalore and the nearby rail head is at Anantapur on the Hyderabad-Bangalore line.
