Dharmavaram




Dharmavaram is located in the Anantapur District of Andhra Pradesh. It lies 74 km from Anantapur. The place derived its name from Dharmamba, the mother of Sri Kriyasakthi Odeyar who dug the sacred Dharmavaram tank. The place is famous for the temple of Sri Lakshmi Chennakeshwara. This temple is known for its architectural beauty and wonderful sculptures and carvings within. Equally remarkable are the perennial water-spout and the stone pillars which when struck produce seven musical notes.

Dharmavaram has a thriving cotton and silk-weaving industry. There is a distinct kind of silk Saree from this area called Dharmavaram Saree. The place is also known for its leather puppets. Dharmavaram is well-connected both by rail and road.
