Warli is a tribal community popular for their paintings. These tribes occupy the regions of
Thane District in
Maharashtra, northern boundary of
Mumbai to
Gujarat border. Their origin is unknown. But many scholars say that their art forms existed from the tenth century onwards. Since the 17th century, the paintings have been popular. Mythology or great epics are not included in the paintings. The tribe simply narrate their lifestyle on mud, charcoal and cow dung based surface.
