Thiruvanmiyur Valmiki Temple is situated in the middle of the East Coast Road at
Thiruvanmiyur, in the outskirts of
Chennai. This 1,300 years old temple is dedicated to
Maharshi Valmiki, a great saint, who is believed to be the first poet in
Sanskrit literature.
Legend has it that Maharshi Valmiki after writing the great epic, Ramayana, was heading south along the sea shore and rested here.
Thiruvanmiyur Valmiki Temple is officially under the supervision of Arulmigu Marundeeshwarar Temple.
Brahmotsavam is the major festival celebrated here amid much religious fervor.
