Thamarassery, known as the gateway of
Wayanad, is a small picturesque town on
Kozhikode-Wayanad road (
National Highway 212), in
Kozhikode District of
Kerala. Formerly known as Thazmalassery, Thamarassery is blessed with green foliage, small streams and hills. The village spreads across 56 sq km. During the pre-independent era the place belonged to Kottayam kings.
Rubber and coconut are the major agricultural produce from here. Kerala's first rubber estate, now in the hands of A V Thomas and co, is located here. Thamarassery Public Library, Diocese of Thamarasserry, Cathedral Church and Veterinary Hospital are the major landmarks of this place.
Calicut International Airport and Kozhikode Railway Station serve Thamarassery. Frequent buses are available from Kozhikode Bus Station.
