Rongker is an important festival of the Karbi tribe of
Assam. It is held during the spring season and is the New Year of the tribe.
It celebrated to appease the gods and goddesses and seek their blessings for the wellbeing of the community and a good harvest. It is a belief among this tribe that by organizing the Rongker, the people will be rid of diseases and natural calamites in the coming year. The rituals associated with this festival are exclusively performed by the men. Women are refrained from entering the site of rituals.
