Musk Shrew (Suncus murinus) is a mouse-like mammal with a long pointed nose. It is seen in forested areas, agricultural lands and areas associated with human activity.
A native of Indian subcontinent, it is also found in other countries, from southern Asia and Afghanistan to the Malay and southern Japan. The color of the fur varies from light gray to black. In male, a well-developed scent gland produces the strong, musky odor; hence, it got the name Musk shrew.
This terrestrial species make its home in hidden area. The animal is an insectivorous and eats insects and mammals.
Musk Shrew can be seen in Gir National Park, Gujarat.
