Blue Pitta (Pitta cyanea) is a medium sized bird, generally found in the plains and foothills up to 2000 m above the sea level, in the north-east India and Bangladesh. Its habitat extends from Burma to Thailand and to the Indochinese countries.
The male bird has a pinkish red patch on its hind-crown and shining blue upperparts and black spotting with blue wash to whitish underparts. Females some times lack the pinkish red patch on the hind-crown. Instead they have dull greenish upperparts.
Blue Pitta can be seen in the Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary, Sikkim.
