Found in the states of
Bihar,
Madhya Pradesh and parts of
Uttar Pradesh, the Awadhi tribe is known by different names such as Abadi, Abohi, Ambodhi, Baiswari, Kojali and Kosali. They speak a language known as Awadhi, a dialect of
Hindi.
Awadhis are vegetarians, mainly engaged in the field of agriculture. Barley, maize, rice, sugarcane, and wheat are their main crops.
They follow the traditions and customs of Hindus and worship the deities of Brahma, Shiva, Vishnu and goddess Shakti.
