Tivim, a typical Goan village, is just a few km from
Mapusa and roughly 15 km from
Panaji, the headquarters of
Bardez. The river Mandovi, with its tortuous water, cuts the village in two and makes the terrain fertile.
Tivim was formerly the doorway to Western Ghats. It was a key center of coastal trade. Now, it is one of the best industrial villages that house many modern villas and fashionable shops. Large quantities of gold and iron ore were excavated from Tivim. The ruins of a fort and canals, which were once Tivim’s pride, can still be seen here. The railroad station at Tivim is served by
Konkan Railways. Goa Airport, the main international airport in Goa, is the one nearest to Tivim.
